Type
A Schmidt-Cassegrain, or SCT, bounces light off a spherical main mirror at the back to a small mirror on a thin glass corrector plate at the front, then back out through a hole in the main mirror. Folding the light that way packs a long focal length into a short tube, so an 8-inch f/10 SCT is only about 17 inches long. You focus by moving the main mirror, so a little image shift is normal. Used, the corrector is the part to check, because damp storage can leave haze or fungus on its inside face. Many SCTs also came on computerized mounts, which need their hand controller and power to work.
