The 10-inch LX200 was in Meade's first LX200 lineup in 1992 next to the 8-inch, and it went through the same three generations: the keypad Classic, the AutoStar II LX200GPS with its mirror lock and microfocuser, and the Advanced Coma-Free LX200-ACF from 2008. The GPS version is a 254 mm f/10 with a 2,500 mm focal length. You get noticeably more light than the 8-inch, and a lot more weight in the fork and tripod, so setting it up is a real job. That's why many of these live on a pier or wedge in a backyard observatory, and why so many listings are local pickup. Meade stopped operating in 2024, so check that everything works before you buy.

What should come with it
The hand controller and its cable
Heavy-duty field tripod
Power cord or 12 V adapter
Finder, diagonal and an eyepiece
Equatorial wedge, if the listing claims one
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. Plenty of listings are the tube alone or the mount alone, and a missing hand controller, power supply or counterweight should come off the price.
What to check
The drive electronics and motors are the costly parts to fail, so the GoTo needs testing. The heavy fork and tube suffer in poor packing. The corrector can haze in damp storage, and Meade no longer exists to supply parts.
01Slew test: Ask for a video of it aligning and slewing to a named star. Both axes should run smoothly without grinding.
02Hand controller: Check the hand controller and cable are in the photos with a working display. Without it the GoTo is useless.
03Corrector: Ask for a photo of the front glass lit at an angle by a flashlight. It should be clear, with no haze or fungus.
04Clutches: Ask whether both axis locks hold the tube still when tightened. A tube that droops with the locks on needs work.
05Pickup: Plan how you'll collect it before you buy. Local pickup lets you see it work, while shipping needs a crate or very thick foam.
06Power: Ask which power cord or adapter is included. You need the right one before you can test it at home.
We'd start with the $950 LX200 EMC titled with extras and a case, the lowest ask on a 10-inch by a wide margin, though its photo shows no tripod and it quotes no shipping. There are at least 12 for sale, and nine quote no shipping, so the $2,750–3,275 band comes from just the three that do, with $350–700 shipping on top, and isn't a market read. Most ask $950–2,000 before shipping. These are heavy fork scopes, so plan on pickup or a shipping quote, and ask for a video of it aligning and slewing on both axes with its own hand controller plus a flashlight photo through the corrector at an angle. Meade stopped operating in 2024, so a dead drive board or motor means third-party parts, and you should skip the zero-feedback UK seller's ACF.

The lowest ask on a 10-inch LX200 at $950, titled EMC f/10 with extras and a case, and the photo shows the fork, manual and accessories but no tripod. No shipping is quoted, and the sellers here who quote it ask $350–700, so get a quote before you compare.
Titled serviced and sold with Meade's Superwedge, and the photo shows it on its tripod next to a case of accessories. Ask what the service covered and for a slewing video, and get a shipping quote, since none is given.
