Brand
Vixen started in October 1949 as Kosuke Tsuchida's optical wholesale business in Tokyo, became Koyusha in 1954 and took the Vixen name in 1970. It began making telescopes in 1966 and became best known for its mounts: the Polaris of 1976, the Super Polaris and the SkySensor go-to computer in 1984, the Great Polaris line in 1992, the Porta alt-azimuth mounts in 2005 and the Polarie star tracker in 2011. It moved its headquarters to Tokorozawa, outside Tokyo, in 1985. In the United States, Celestron distributed Vixen in the 1980s, Orion took over in the 1990s, and TeleVue's Vixen North America followed in 2002. Vixen is still in business, though some of the models here are discontinued.
