Vixen · Cassegrain · 5 to 8 inches · Early 2000s on
The VC200L is Vixen's VISAC telescope, short for Vixen Sixth-order Aspherical Catadioptric. Instead of a front corrector plate like an SCT, it has a main mirror with a sixth-order aspheric curve and three correcting lenses inside the baffle tube, which together fix coma, spherical aberration and field curvature for a flat field. It's a 200 mm at f/9 with a 1,800 mm focal length, weighing about 6.9 kg, with a 64 mm drawtube focuser and a flip mirror at the back for switching between a camera and an eyepiece. Vixen was selling it by 2003 and still lists it. It's a rarer find than an SCT, so used ones turn up less often. It needs a solid equatorial mount.
The full kit
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. Plenty of listings are the tube alone or the mount alone, and a missing hand controller, power supply or counterweight should come off the price.
Vixen's manual describes a star test but no owner collimation routine, so a scope that's out of alignment may need a dealer. The tube is open at the front, so check the main mirror for dust and coating wear. Accessories like the flip mirror and finder are easy to lose.
New to used telescopes? How to check a used telescope covers optics, mounts, power and shipping, and what a complete kit looks like helps with tube-only and mount-only listings.
Buying guide
We'd buy the $1,198 VC200L tube with free shipping from a 99.2% seller in Japan, the lowest ask and less than half what new tubes ask. Tubes alone run from $1,198 used to $2,727–2,983 new, and sets run from $1,555 for a used one on a Meade LXD55 mount to $6,307 and $8,941 for new SX2WL and SXP2WL sets from a 97.4% dealer in Spain, so with six listings the $1,825–5,500 band isn't a market read. Ask for a flashlight photo down the tube at the main mirror and whether it's been star-tested, since Vixen gives owners no collimation routine and a misaligned one may need a dealer. The tube needs a solid equatorial mount, and the cheapest one's photo shows no finder, a Vixen part that's hard to replace. Listings from Japan and Spain take longer and can bring import fees.

The lowest ask, $1,198 with free shipping from Japan, for the tube alone, so it needs an equatorial mount. The photo shows its handle and front cover but no finder; ask what's included.
