Type
A Dobsonian is a Newtonian reflector, an open tube with a main mirror at the bottom and a small flat mirror near the top, sitting in a simple rocker box that you push to aim. John Dobson popularized the idea of big, cheap mirrors on plain wooden mounts, and it's still the most aperture you can buy for the money. Solid tubes are simple, and truss or collapsible tubes pack smaller. Some add push-to computers or full GoTo. Used, check the mirror coating, the collimation and the base. Big ones are heavy and bulky, so many are sold for local pickup.
