Sky-Watcher · Dobsonian · 10 inches and up
The 14-inch Flextube GoTo, the Flextube 350P SynScan, is the biggest of the collapsible GoTo Dobs in this guide. It uses the same three-pole tube as the smaller ones with a 356 mm mirror, and Sky-Watcher USA lists it at 1,650 mm and f/4.6, while UK dealers give 1,600 mm and f/4.5. Under a dark sky, that aperture shows galaxies and nebulae a smaller scope only hints at. It's a serious lump to move. The tube weighs 53 lb and the base 94 lb, so most owners keep it on wheels or in a garage near where they observe. The SynScan AZ controller with Wi-Fi does the finding, and a dual-speed focuser helps with the fine focus at high power. Plan the pickup before anything else.
The full kit
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. Plenty of listings are the tube alone or the mount alone, and a missing hand controller, power supply or counterweight should come off the price.
At this size the base and tube are easy to damage in transport, and a 94 lb base is not something to ship casually. Controllers, cables and power supplies go missing. The motors need testing, and the big mirror needs a careful look.
New to used telescopes? How to check a used telescope covers optics, mounts, power and shipping, and what a complete kit looks like helps with tube-only and mount-only listings.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for a photo looking into the optics with a flashlight and one of everything included, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
