The LX90 was Meade's lighter, simpler fork-mounted GoTo Schmidt-Cassegrain, a step below the LX200. It carries an 8-inch f/10 tube on cast aluminum double-tine forks and uses the AutoStar #497 hand controller, the same one Meade put on its smaller GoTo scopes. It runs on eight C cells, with car and mains cords as options. Later versions added the LNT module and SmartFinder red-dot finder, a GPS model followed, and from 2008 the LX90-ACF switched to Meade's Advanced Coma-Free optics. Because it's lighter than an LX200, it's an easier scope to carry out to the yard. Meade stopped operating in 2024, so a complete, working one with its AutoStar is the one to buy.

Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. Plenty of listings are the tube alone or the mount alone, and a missing hand controller, power supply or counterweight should come off the price.
C cells left in the base can leak and corrode the battery contacts. The AutoStar controller and its cable go missing from used kits, and the drive motors need testing. The corrector can haze or grow fungus in damp storage.

Only four 8-inch LX90s are for sale, so the $2,500 band is one zero-feedback seller's ask and not a market read. We'd watch the LX90 EMC auction at $650 with no bids, whose photo shows the AutoStar beside the scope, and expect it to climb; it quotes no shipping. Among fixed prices, the $1,900 LX90 GPS UHTC with extras, shown on its tripod, asks $1,000 less than the $2,900 LX90-ACF kit. Ask any seller for a photo of the C-cell holder in the base, a video of it slewing on both axes with its own AutoStar and a flashlight photo through the corrector at an angle, since Meade stopped operating in 2024 and parts now come from third parties. Skip the zero-feedback listing whose photo is the instruction-manual cover.
