Takahashi has made fluorite refractors since 1977, when it introduced what it calls the world's first fluorite apochromat, and the FS-60C is the smallest of them. It arrived in January 1999 as a 60 mm doublet with a 355 mm focal length at f/5.9, and unusually the fluorite element sits in front, where you can see it. It's tiny, about 1.4 kg with its finder, so it rides on a photo tripod, travels in a backpack and works as a wide-field camera lens. Takahashi later revised it as the FS-60CB, with the tube reworked around a 0.72x reducer, and adding the CQ1.7x extender turns it into the FS-60Q. Sellers often just write FS-60, so check which version and which adapters you're getting.

The full kit
What should come with it
Tube with its dew shield and lens cap
6x30 finder and bracket, if the listing claims them (sold separately in some markets)
Tube holder or rings and a dovetail for your mount
Any reducer, flattener or extender the listing claims
Visual adapters for a diagonal and eyepieces
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. Plenty of listings are the tube alone or the mount alone, and a missing hand controller, power supply or counterweight should come off the price.
What to check
The front element is fluorite, so the lens is the part to look after, and scratches or cleaning marks matter. Takahashi's reducers, flatteners and adapters are small, separate parts that often go missing. Make sure the version and the extras match the listing.
01Front lens: Ask for a photo looking into the lens with a flashlight from the side. It should be clear, with no haze, fungus or cleaning marks.
02Version: Check the engraving says FS-60C or FS-60CB and not FS-60Q. The Q has the extender built in and a longer tube.
03Focuser: Ask the seller to rack the focuser all the way in and out. It should run smoothly with no slipping.
04Extras: List every reducer, flattener and adapter the title mentions. Each should show in the photos with its Takahashi markings.
05Mounting: Check what holds the tube, a holder ring or a dovetail. You'll need one that fits your mount or tripod.
06Packing: Ask how it will ship. The lens should be capped and the tube padded so it can't roll in the box.
We'd buy the $700 FS-60C from a US seller with free shipping, the lowest of the three asks, and its photo shows a diagonal and adapters on the tube. Only three are for sale, at $700 to $899 delivered, so the $750–875 band isn't a market read. The other two are a tube from Japan with a BORG adaptor at $850 delivered, $250 of that shipping, and a US one titled with a reducer at $899. None titles the 6x30 finder, and the US photos show an empty finder bracket, so budget for one if you want it. Ask for a flashlight photo into the front lens, since the fluorite element sits in front, and check the engraving says FS-60C and not the longer FS-60Q.
