Celestron · Refractor · Up to 4 inches
The Omni XLT 102 is a 4-inch achromatic refractor on a manual equatorial mount, the kind of scope a first-time buyer can set up and use the same night. Its lens is 102 mm across with a 1,000 mm focal length, a slow f/9.8 that keeps the purple fringing on bright objects mild for a two-element lens. It rides on Celestron's CG-4 mount with slow-motion knobs and two counterweights, and there's no motor or computer to go wrong. You will see some color around Jupiter, Venus and the Moon's edge, which is normal for this kind of lens. A clean one with its mount, counterweights and finder is a simple, durable scope for the Moon, planets and bright star clusters.
The full kit
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. Plenty of listings are the tube alone or the mount alone, and a missing hand controller, power supply or counterweight should come off the price.
The lens can collect haze or fungus if it's been stored damp without its cap. Mounts like the CG-4 lose parts in moves, most often the counterweights, the shaft or the slow-motion cables.
New to used telescopes? How to check a used telescope covers optics, mounts, power and shipping, and what a complete kit looks like helps with tube-only and mount-only listings.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for a photo looking into the optics with a flashlight and one of everything included, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
